Open Season 2 – Movie Review

The animated film Open Season 2 will be released on January 27 2009 on DVD & Blu-Ray Disc and it includes Joel McHale (Host of The Soup) as the voice of Elliot the overly energetic mule deer. The voice of Elliot was played by Ashton Kutcher in the original movie.

The straight to DVD sequel brings back your favorite characters Elliot (McHale) and Boog the Bear (Mike Epps). Epps replaces Martin Lawrence as the voice of Boog for this wild adventure.

Open Season 2 opens with the pending wedding of Elliot and Giselle (Jane Krakowski) however poor Elliot is having doubts and confides in best friend Boog. On a journey to figure out what he really wants, and to rescue their friend Mr. Weenie who has been kidnapped and about to be returned to his human owners by a group of over zealous pampered pooches, Elliot must overcome a myriad of adventures to finally determine his true hearts desire.

While the wild critter adventures get the most laughs, it is the sentimental story about two deer in love that gives this movie its warmth and soul.

The sequel has a noticeable budget drop but don’t let that put you off. While the animation is not a smooth as the original, what it lacks in picture quality it more that makes up for in laughs.

The new blood brings a comedic twist that the first was lacking. With Joel McHale’s slapstick comedy timing and cameo appearances from legends such as Billy Connolly (as squirrel McSquizzy) Open Season 2 is much more charming and definitely funnier movie and should appeal to all ages.
